NLS Rank is a clear, independent view of basketball performance. We evaluate the full player—not a single clip, a follower count, or a paid feature—and publish recognition when the work supports it.
You can pay for exposure. You cannot pay for position. Paid services can help tell an athlete’s story, but they never change a ranking status, tier, Watchlist placement, or leaderboard position.
Rankings are not based on one game, one clip, one stat line, or social media attention. NLS looks at the full athlete profile and the way the game travels over time.
We study the complete skill set: handling, shooting, finishing, passing, rebounding, defense, footwork, spacing, and the reads that make a player useful on both ends.
Stats start the conversation. We also look at how an athlete creates advantages, lifts team execution, handles matchup pressure, and changes the game when possessions matter.
Every performance is read in context: opponent quality, role, event setting, pace, physicality, varsity or travel environment, and the responsibility an athlete is trusted to carry.
A number should reflect more than one hot night. We value repeatable habits, reliable effort, and performances that hold up across games, events, and changing roles.
Film reveals the details: timing, shot selection, passing reads, defensive communication, response to pressure, and the discipline to make the next winning play.
Projection considers tools, growth curve, skill development, positional versatility, work habits, coachability, and how the game may translate to the next level.
A numerical ranking shows an athlete’s place within a specific division and graduation class. An NLS tier describes the evaluation level. They are related, but separate: changing one does not automatically change the other.
Prospect, Scorer, Elite, Champion, and The One are NLS evaluation tiers. A tier is not automatically assigned during signup, public submission, or Watchlist placement; it is assigned separately through independent NLS review.
Each status has a different meaning. Watchlist is not the same as being officially ranked, and Under Evaluation is the starting point.
This is the starting point for a new profile or submission. NLS is gathering context and reviewing the athlete; no Watchlist spot, tier, or numerical ranking has been assigned.
Watchlist means NLS is monitoring an athlete for a future release. It is not a numerical ranking or an NLS tier, and it never guarantees a future number.
Officially Ranked means NLS has approved an athlete for a published ranking set. The athlete appears on the public leaderboard only when a valid number and published release are also in place.
Athletes only appear on public ranking pages when NLS has approved and published the correct ranking information.
NLS reviews current film, production, role, competition, development, and the athlete’s broader context.
Athletes are considered within the correct division and graduation class so every comparison has a clear frame.
NLS independently determines whether an athlete is Under Evaluation, Watchlist, or Officially Ranked, then assigns a number when earned.
A ranking becomes public only after the official status, numerical rank, group, and publication approval are complete.
A public number is visible only when every part of the release is complete:
The athlete status must be Officially Ranked.
The athlete must have a real published ranking number.
The ranking must be approved and published by NLS.
The athlete must match the selected division and graduation class.
Watchlists normally update monthly. Emergency corrections may happen for incorrect athlete information, wrong graduation class, wrong division, duplicate profiles, eligibility issues, athlete removal requests, or serious conduct and policy concerns. Watchlist removals are not publicly announced.
Paid services are exposure products only: writing, graphics, film support, social spotlights, and event coverage. They can help present an athlete’s story, but they cannot buy a number. NLS independently determines every placement and tier.
